Elvis

This image is one of the first things I ever remember seeing on television. I was almost 4 1/2 years old and I vividly remember being in the den watching Elvis' funeral procession with my parents.

Opposing sides (Civil War)

My 3rd great grandfather on my mother's side, Felix M. Drais, served in the Union Regular Army, 12th Regiment, Company A out of Ohio. He was shot during the Battle of Gettysburg and laid on the battlefield for over two weeks with holes in both legs.

Just discovered that my 4th great grandfather on my father's side, Jefferson J. McNeely, served in Capt. W.W. Griffin’s Co., Coosa County Reserves based out of Alabama. He was a prisoner of war, paroled by Breyt. Brig. Genl. M. H. Chrysler on May 24, 1865 at Talladega, Alabama.

Interesting to have people on both sides, but I guess I always knew I did seeing as my Southern side of the family is still in the same town where JJ McNeely was paroled over 140 yrs later.

• Church cancels gay vet's memorial
  High Point Church in Texas. It's Joel Osteen's sister's church. They offered to have the funeral and then learned the deceased was gay and canceled it. Good enough to fight for our country, but not to be remembered in their church.
