About: I'm Jen. I live a few miles outside of Boston. I do web work for a non-profit during the day. This web page has been in all sorts of forms since 1994 when I first wrote HTML in emacs on a Unix terminal at BU. Now I prefer BBEdit on my Mac. I'm never quite sure why I'm doing this Archives

October 16, 2007 Sox Just found an autograph book of mine with a Boston Globe headline cut out from 1981 announcing the longest game played at Fenway. I was there, with my dad. Alongside it are my autographs from that night from Glenn Hoffman, Dave Stapleton, Bob Stanley and so on. I wondered if it still held the record of the longest game and according to this page, it does: The longest game ever played at Fenway began on 9/3/1981. It was suspended at 1:16 am at the end of 19 innings, according to the old curfew rule that an inning couldn't begin after 1 am. The game resumed the next day, and the Red Sox ended up losing to Seattle 8-7, in 20 innings. Jerry Remy had 6 hits, to tie the American League record. Posted by Jen on
