About: I'm Jen. I live a few miles outside of Boston. I do web work for a non-profit during the day. This web page has been in all sorts of forms since 1994 when I first wrote HTML in emacs on a Unix terminal at BU. Now I prefer BBEdit on my Mac. I'm never quite sure why I'm doing this Archives

April 20, 2006 Patriot's Day I started writing this on Patriot's Day, but never finished... 231 years ago, only a few miles from where I am, the American Revolution began. This morning a parade went by my door with muskets firing and Yankee Doodle Dandy playing. The Revolution started the year my 5th great grandfather was born in Hardy, Virginia. His son would marry the granddaughter of two Revolutionary War veterans, Peter Trexler and John Hidy, a veteran of the Battle of Valley Forge. I'm also pretty sure my Langley family traces back to John Langley who was born on the James River in Virginia in 1760 and fought in the Revolutionary War as a teenager. Meanwhile, another side of my family was in Arapkir, Armenia under Russian rule , with scary times just ahead. For more on that, check out a new documentary on PBS. (Weird small world: one of the underwriters babysat me as a child. ) Posted by Jen on
